I have a question about blackberries. We have wild ones growing all around us, and I've noticed that one plant never has thorns and there's one that does. Is the one without the thorns the male plant? Is it ok to cut those down and leaves the ones with the berries? Is there a good way to transplant blackberry bushes, some grow right in our flower beds, can I move them? I've been wondering about these thorny ones for years that don't produce fruit, so maybe someone will tell me about them. Thanks.

I thought your article was very informative for the general public, since Diatomaceous Earth hasn't been popularized until recently. I wanted to leave a comment because I think some clarification may be needed regarding types of Diatomaceous Earth. There are different grades of Diatomaceous Earth - that is there are some that are finer than others. The ones used in pool filters, shouldn't be used for anything but that, but then there's the one like the one you have above, which are good for general purpose applications in the home and garden. Furthermore there are "Food Grade" quality Diatomaceous Earth products which are safe to not only use in the home and garden, but to also "dust" your animals with if they have fleas or to feed to get rid of internal parasites like worms. There are several various brands on the market. I have used both one from Lumino Wellness and St. Gabriel Organics with good success. I began using it when I was bringing in my houseplants, to rid them of earwigs. But then I heard you could use it for fleas from my local organic garden center, Marders. Since I have a collie who isn't really supposed to be on Frontline or any of those, i thought I'd give it a try. I dusted the lawn and the animals and it seems like it's cut down on both fleas and ticks (being from the East End of Long Island where you can walk out your back door and get LoneStar ticks, deer ticks and brown dog ticks on you before you get to your car, it is a godsend). Hope this was helpful to anyone and not me just rambling on.

If the plant is mature, it should be ok. Before purchasing any product though, read the label carefully to see if it recommends not using it on a wild plant.
